GLEAM PROGRAM

GLEAM – Genesis and Light’s Educational Assistance Mentoring Program

Our staff includes classified and certified teachers, with assistance from dedicated volunteers and mentors. Genesis and Light Center empowers youth through its variety of programs throughout the year including a Saturday Math Club, After School Enrichment, Summer Enhancement Camp, and Drama Club programs. Genesis and Light Center services include tutoring, counseling, educational assistance, arts and crafts, and extracurricular/enrichment activities that are provided to at-risk students who attend low-performing schools. All of these programs are geared toward building academic excellence and strengthening youth. Our goal is to assist the school districts in providing students with a quality education that will enable them to compete in a global economy.

Our Center opens at 7:00 AM and closes at 6:00 PM on Monday – Friday during the school year. During the summer, the Center opens at 7:30 AM and closes at 6:00 PM. Once a month our drama club prepares and performs a stage play during in-school hours at a local public school. Time and days for the Summer Drama Club varies. JPS buses will provide transportation for after school program. The Center has a bus and two vans that can also assist in providing transportation for program participants whose school is less than a mile from the center. The Center provides transportation for all field trips and activities away from the center year round. The Center provides services to kindergarteners, high school seniors, and every grade in between. The Center is open for a total of 247 days per year. During the summer months (June-Aug), our center will provide daily, nutritious meals that meet the requirements of the USDA National Lunch Program for meal supplements.
